Stand against the wall

This Sunday it was backs to the wall as some of the best street art in the city was asked to be painted over. Art work by renowned street artists Gary Stranger and MSK, it's said that due to pressure from a resident, the owner of the building asked local cafe owner and Portsmouth & Southsea artist "Fark" to paint over the brilliant wall murals. Fark, for the last 5 years has curated the art work on the walls, in doing so he has got some of the best talent for street art to come and add colour and beauty to our already talented local artists such as MyDogSighs and This is Midge.

30+ Southsea residents including myself stood arm in arm side by side in front of the art so it couldn't be covered over. I'm happy to say, for the time being we still have the art on the wall.

Gary Stranger has recently been commissioned by the town of Ditchling, Sussex to paint letters around the village celebrating type and font, it's a shame Portsmouth City Councils, Councillor of Art and Culture hasn't the same vision.
